At 4:32 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, an officer got a call from loss prevention about a suspect, Mecca Lee-Bey, who was seen stealing more than $2,500 worth of merchandise, Fairfax County police said.
Upon approach, Lee-Bey fled the business and entered a nearby parking lot. Detectives from the Tysons Urban Team were asked for assistance. Lee-Bey attempted to open the door of a 2013 Kia Optima entering the garage.
The victim, a teenager, was alarmed and drove away, with Lee-Bey holding onto the door and being dragged for a short distance. The victim stopped a short distance away and exited the car. Lee-Bey then took control of the vehicle and drove off. The victim was unharmed during the carjacking.
Lee-Bey fled westbound on Leesburg Pike in the stolen car. He tried to make an abrupt U-turn, but lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a gas pump in the 8100 block of Leesburg Pike. Lee-Bey then ran into a gas station, where he was arrested.
Last week, Lee-Bey carried out a kidnapping and armed robbery in Washington DC, as previously reported by Daily Voice.
Lee-Bey was taken to the hospital for minor injuries sustained while being dragged. He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with carjacking and grand larceny. He was being held without bond.
